1947- First Kashmir War

Scene of the First Kadish War Action
Jammu and Kashmir was one of the many Indian states recognized by the British. Both India and Pakistan laid claims to the state. The Maharaja of Kashmir, Hari Singh wanted to remain independent by deploying dilatory tactics.

At the time of British withdrawal the state was occupied by the pro-Pakistani tribals from the North West Frontier Province as well as by Pakistani troops. This forced the Maharaja to opt for India and the latter rushed troops into the region. Thus the war began. Till date Pakistan claims that since the majority are Muslims Pakistan has a better claim to it. But India says that 48% belong to other communities like Sikhs, Buddhists and Hindus etc.

Dogra officers slaughtered during the war:
The advantage was apparently with the Pakistani supported local paramilitary known as the Azad Kashmir force. Azad means ‘free’. Pakistan was of the view that with the increase in hostilities the ratio in favour of Pakistan would increase. Before the war the forces of Jammu and Kashmir were spread around the border as a response to militant activity. The British were suspected of having a hand in the arrest and murder of a Dogra Officer in the Gilgit region for supporting the tribal Islamic factions.

The war was heading for a stalemate with both nations holding territory of the other. India suffered the loss of 3000 on the field while Pakistan suffered no less than 3,800. India came to occupy 710 miles (1,840 square miles) of Pakistani territory while the latter held 210 miles (545 square miles) of Indian territory, mostly in Chumb in the north sector.

I am a pakistani and i know the truth of india and pakistan: india is 6 times larger economy than pakistan. india's defence budget is $26 billion and that os pak is $4.6 billion. india is spending $47.5 billion on common wealth preprations and pak's budget is $20 billion india's exports are $160 billion and pakistan keeps on begging from other countries pakistan lost all the wars from india suffering huge losses. This is the time to face the truth.

Shazil that’s true but also we should never forget we were once brothers from the same nation and fought our battle for independence under the same slogan - ”Vande Mataram” May Peace Prevail!

Kashmirs have had enough of wars. I hope that their wish for lasting peace is realized. They know that war does not solve their problem but only compounds their pain. Let us take lessons from Afghanistan - a war that has turned the country upside down has still not achieved its goal! I hope that India follows the path of diplomacy with the help of the international community to pressure and help the Pakistan government to rout out terrorist agents from their soil.

Keeping all the sentimentality aside, the real reason why the Pakistani Army vies for Kashmir is WATER SECURITY. Religion is only used to build broad consensus within Pakistan, just like with everything else. Kashmir is the source of several rivers that pass through India and into Pakistan, and the PA, with its habit of trying to solve problems through the barrel of the gun, be it Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Balochistan or Kargil, now wants to annex Kashmir. Just because rivers originate in another country is not a sufficient rationale to annex its territories. By that logic India would like to Annex Tibet from China to gain control over the Brahmaputra’s source. Several European countries will be at each others’ throats. And this madness will never end.

We never wanted a war, but it was thrust up on us. This is a crucial time and India’s patience is running out.

This is a time when both Pakistan’s and India’s economies are fast developing fast and war at the moment will lead to a total destruction.

Nevertheless, war is never a solution to any problem. History is the proof that Guns and swords never settled any issue but talks at the end.

However, our neighbor on the other side of the LOC should understand that poking the resting tiger time and again will result in nothing but fierce attack.

”We never wanted nor we at this time want a war, but if it is forced or compulsory, we’ll fight it to the end.”

However, don’t want a war with Pakistan but against the terrorists. Pakistan should respond to India’s call with political will to fight against terrorism than giving it a safe haven.

Now at the end, I request people of Both nations to pray and politicians to put stern effort to not to let the war come to us. Amen!
